AUDI is lifting the lid on future developments with a plug-in hybrid version of the A3 to be shown at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

The Audi A3 e-tron uses a 1.4 TSI petrol engine paired with an electric motor giving a combined output of 204 PS to deliver 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 138mph.

Thanks to the ability to draw power from the mains, the A3 e-tron should reach 81mph and have a range of 31 miles in electric-only mode. Audi is also claiming a combined fuel consumption of 188mpg and emissions of 35g/km.

For the time being, this the A3 e-tron is being touted as “a realistic glimpse into the future of Audi” suggesting something very like it will make it into production fairly soon.
