Audi A4 2.0 TDi 150 SE Ultra:

What is it?

The entry-level, diesel-powered version of the new Audi A4 and in 2.0-litre 150 Ultra trim, likely to be a popular choice for business car buyers.

What’s hot?

  • Okay, so the new A4 doesn’t look massively different to the old one, but the sharp metal shaping definitely marks out the new car. Our favorite parts are the sharp beltline that runs from the larger grille, right to that rear spoiler moulded in the boot at the back. Plus the way the clamshell bonnet floats on the front wings – it’s no wonder Audi claim an almost class-leading drag coefficient of 0.23 for the new A4 saloon!
  • Audi are claiming A8 luxury levels of refinement and apart from some moderate engine and road noise from our car’s 17-inch alloys, our test A4 which was fitted with the optional acoustic glass proved to be a quiet companion on the test route.

A4 3

  • Audi was one of the first manufacturers that started fitting LED daytime running lights to its models, but just having standard LEDs isn’t good enough anymore as it’s clever Matrix LED light system proves. Tick the Matrix option and you’ll also get Audi’s neat sweeping rear indicators too.
  • This might be the entry-level SE trim, but it’s still well-equipped with 17-inch alloys, three-zone climate control and keyless go.
  • The steering wheel might be on the right now, but thankfully the rest of the new A4’s stylish cabin has remained unchanged since international launch. Highlights include the new interface for the climate control, which not only looks classier, but is actually easy to operate, then there’s the standard 7-inch MMI colour infotainment system, which sprouts from the top of the centre console. Finally, there’s the expected Audi premium feel, with lots of quality-feeling textured plastics and metal finishes.
  • The lack of rear legroom in the last A4 meant rear passengers would be uncomfortable – but not any more. With the new MLB platform and extra 23mm of rear legroom, carrying four-people a long distance is possible. Despite the curvy roofline, the extra 24mm of headroom mean that even the tallest passenger’s heads won’t be touching the headlining either.
  • On top of the extra interior space, the new A4 saloon’s 480 litre boot is practically- shaped and big enough to swallow bulky suitcases or even a couple of sets of golf clubs with ease.
