The new Audi A4 executive saloon will go on sale starting with a £22,590 price tag for the 1.8 TFSi SE model.
A BMW 318i SE costs £22,065.
The new A4 can be ordered for delivery in spring 2008.
The new Audi model promises the longest wheelbase in its class, with a spacious interior.
The range of engines ensures low benefit-in-kind driver taxation.
The key business models are the 2.0-litre TDI diesel with 143PS but emissions of only 144g/km. This places it in the 18% tax banding.
And the 1.8-litre TFSI petrol model with 160PS, emissions of 169g/km and a 21% tax banding.
Other engines include a 190PS 2.7-litre TDI fitted with Multitronic Continuously Variable Transmission auto, a 3.0-litre TDI and two petrol engines: a 160PS 1.8 TFSI unit and a 265PS FSI V6.
SE models come with 17 inch alloy wheels and three-zone climate control as part of high-specification package.
