What’s hot?
- This Q3 is powered by a four-cylinder, 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, with 148bhp. The smaller engine in the Q3’s taller SUV isn’t a problem, as it’s torquey in the lower range and free revving. Acceleration to 62mph takes 9.2 seconds and the top speed is an impressive 126mph.
- Despite the sprightly performance, this Q3 is cost-effective at the pumps, with an impressive 47.9mpg and 137g/km Co2 emissions.
- The low C02 emissions will mean the Q3 1.4 TFSI falls into the 20% company car tax band for 2014/15. This is compared to 23% for the 2.0-litre TDi diesel.
- Only available in two-wheel drive, the 1.4 TFSI version feels like any other Q3 on the road – think refined and comfortable.
- There’s the expected sturdy, well-made and high-quality Audi feel to the upholstery and interior trim.
What’s not?
- Okay, so the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine might be willing and frugal, but it does get noisy and buzzy at high revs.
- Our test car was fitted with the overly hard S-Line suspension, I think the standard suspension is a better compromise. It is not that sporty to drive either.
- At £26,625, the Q3 is still an expensive buy.
- The Q3 is already beginning to feel a bit dated, both inside and out when compared to more modern rivals.
