AUDI has launched a new version of its A3 hatchback model, the 1.6 TDI.

The new Audi A3 has low CO2 emissions of just 109g/km. This gives the A3 significant tax allowances.

The Audi A3 1.6 TDI qualifies for the newly introduced 100% writing down allowance for Corporation Tax – a significant cash-flow advantage for a small business that purchases its company cars.

For companies that lease, the Audi will also benefit from lower contract hire rates.

The new 1.6 turbo diesel engine replaces the 1.9-litre TDie unit in both Audi A3 (3dr) and A3 Sportback (5dr) models.

The new 1.6 engine has the same 105PS and 250Nm peak power and torque outputs as the larger displacement 1.9-litre TDI unit it replaces.

However, thanks to stop-start technology (where the engine cuts out automatically at standstill to save fuel) and energy recuperation systems (capturing ‘lost’ energy from braking and channelling it back to the battery) the new Audi A3 1.6 TDI has fuel consumption of 68.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

The 109g/km figure means the Audi A3 1.6 TDI qualifies for the lowest diesel company car tax band of 13%.

The A3 1.6 TDI will be available in Standard, SE, Sport and S line trim configurations. All models feature: alloy wheels; air conditioning or climate control; CD audio; electric windows and mirrors; and split/folding rear seats. Prices start at £17,485.

The 1.6-litre diesel engine will also be available in the A3 Cabriolet, replacing the current 1.9 diesel engine. However, CO2 emissions of 114g/km means the A3 Cabriolet falls the wrong side of the 100% writing down allowance. But its company car tax banding is 13%. The A3 1.6 TDI Cabriolet is priced from £18,025.
