A proper full-up executive size car that is consistently returning 53mpg on its suburban diet, and costs next to nothing in company car tax

THIS is my new mile munching business car: the Vauxhall Insignia.

The car that was voted SME Company Car of the Year by our SME specialist judges chaired by the Business Secretary and MP for Twickenham Vince Cable.

Vauxhall Insignia
Proof of the pudding: this is the sort of economy you can expect when you get out of town

It also won the Best Car for Tax.

This is what one of our judges said:

“The Insignia seems like a clear winner here. Newly facelifted model looks great, feels seriously spacious, is unbelievably economical and barely costs anything in tax. “

So if it’s the best on the market for SMEs, we thought we should try it.

It’s the same 140PS EcoFLEX model that won our SME Company Car of the Year award, but we pushed the boat out to go for Elite Nav trim (£24,224). It falls into the 15% company car tax band this year.

And we’re already seeing the benefits of its economy. It’s seriously, seriously economical. On one individual trip we recorded over 65mpg (see photo). And our average is 53mpg – many more compact hatchbacks fail to meet that sort of economy. But here we’re talking about a large executive car.
