And that’s because the controls are simple and logical to use, while directly in the driver’s sight line there’s a display screen so you can absorb the information while continuing to keep an eye on the road ahead.
So you can choose a new radio station, dial up the latest running info on the car, call a client – they can all be done easily scrolling through the menu and then toggling right or left.
It’s clearly been designed by someone who appreciates what it’s like to live life on the road.
Facts, figures, likes and dislikes
- P11D – £24,169
- Company car tax – £60 per month for a basic rate tax payer
- Official mpg – 76.3mpg
- Our average mpg – 53.3mpg over 5620 miles
- Our best mpg – 65.2mpg on a 120 mile trip
- We like – long distance travelling experience, luxury specification, outstanding economy, low company car tax exposure, sat nav graphics, carrying capacity
- We don’t like – engine noisy under acceleration, sat nav doesn’t always recognise your destination by full address, muting needed on first ring of the phone
What I’ve found less successful is some of the functionality of the satnav system which can be inputted on the 8-inch colour touch screen.
If you go to the bother of putting the complete address in, as it encourages you to do, it’s never once come up with anything other than ‘not found’. Stick to the post code and the system will find it. Doh!
I have to say I also found it difficult to increase or decrease the map with any accuracy using a finger and thumb action. A plus or minus button might be easier. And those finger marks need to be wiped off regularly – otherwise they obscure the screen in bright sunshine.
But these observations aside, the Insignia is a magnificent road warrior – comfortable, easy to use on business, and economical on fuel: little wonder the Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi 140 PS ecoFLEX was voted our SME Company Car of the Year.
