THE Volkswagen Golf was the most leased car model in Quarter 1, 2018, but Audi was the most in-demand brand for car leasing.

Reflecting the unease concerning diesel vehicles, the Golf petrol was popular than the diesel model.

These are the figures released by Fleet Procure, a fleet procurement platform used by a consortium of leasing brokers and car dealers, that lease cars to SMEs on both business contract hire and personal leasing terms.

But perhaps the most astonishing fact is that the Range Rover Velar was in third place, one place behind the Kia Sportage and one of six SUVs in the top 10.

Lee Jones, Managing Director of Fleet Procure, commented:

“It comes as no surprise that the Volkswagen Golf continues to be the number one seller but perhaps more surprising is that the petrol engines outsold the diesel at a ratio of 60:40.

“The Kia Sportage had a very strong quarter finishing in second place and beating the Nissan Qashqai to the crown of the best selling SUV.

“Velar was the best selling premium SUV thanks to some very good leasing rates and third overall while the Mercedes GLC not far behind. Aggressive rates on the Audi A5 Sportback secured it eighth place.”

Lee added that the lack of stock and vehicle availability meant many customers had to look towards alternative vehicles rather than their first choice.

“Customers had to move towards vehicles that were not their first choice but rather what was available and within budget,” Lee continued, adding that vehicle availability may become an increasing issue over Quarters 2 and 3.

Audi, Volkswagen and Mercedes were the leading brands leased overall.

More than 1000 vehicles were ordered through the Fleet Procure platform in Quarter 1.
