  • All-new model line marks Chery’s plans to join global market
  • Frankfurt Motor Show début highlights focus on distinctive design
  • All-new compact SUV will feature state-of-the-art connectivity and electrified powertrain technology as standard

Chinese carmaker, Chery has released details of its new model line ahead of the world première at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 12 September 2017.

The first images of the compact SUV may only be artist impressions but they are still quite enticing. Although, is it just us or does this new compact SUV look an awful lot like the Jaguar F-Pace?

Apparently the look of the all-new compact SUV comes from Chery’s ‘Life in Motion’ design philosophy and is aimed at young, urban customers who “choose sophisticated, high quality products”. This new compact SUV definitely looks like the part so we can tick that particular box.

The muscular and purposeful stance is supposed to exude confidence and stability with a wide track and large, stylish wheels. The as yet unnamed SUV features a horizontal chrome bar across the grille which will form part of Chery’s signature look. It continues with further chrome trim adorning the front bumper, side skirts and window surrounds. Full LED headlamps and a neat rear light cluster design complete the car’s aesthetic.

The interior also looks like it would fit the bill for a dynamic and trendy urban SUV. It may not necessarily be this orange in real life but the design and layout are sure to impress potential customers.

Ray Bierzynski, Executive Vice President of Chery R&D Centre Shanghai, said: “The world première of our new compact SUV marks the start of our approach to European sales with a new model line. Launching within a few years, all models in the line-up will feature characteristic styling, user-focused technology, electrified powertrains and advanced safety features.”

Chery sold over 600,000 vehicles in China in 2016 alone. It is also the first Chinese manufacturer to sell more than six million cars. There is no lack of experience but in global terms Chery is a new name in the market so only time will tell how they fare.

On the basis of this new SUV it certainly seems very impressive.
