What is it?

THE facelifted DS 3. Although on the outside not much appears to have changed, the French supermini marks a big change for Citroen DS. Following a 60 year partnership, the two French firms have decided to go at it alone, with the facelifted DS 3 being the first solo effort from Citroen’s former luxury sub brand.

Visual updates include a pair of new headlamps and not much else. However, beneath the bonnet, DS has replaced the old 155bhp 1.6-litre engine with a cleaner and more powerful 165bhp version. Paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, performance is also firmly in warm hatch territory with a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds.

The DS 3 has always been a rather expensive alternative to mainstream superminis and that doesn’t change with the facelifted version. The soft-top Cabrio model in DSport trim demands a steep £21,225 price tag, but a premium image and nifty roof mechanism are the its unique selling points.
