Nexus: car rental with a CO2 conscience

AS BUSINESSES focus on their carbon footprint, Nexus has launched an innovative solution that sets a benchmark for the rental industry. Neil McCrossan from Nexus reports.

REDUCING carbon emissions. It’s high on the agenda of many businesses right now. But how do you drive down your business car emissions?

We have a new initiative to offset carbon emissions for vehicles rented for business. This will enable customers to drive ‘CarbonZero’. Crucially, the carbon offset scheme will not only help businesses reduce their impact on the climate, but provide direct help to families in Africa through a partnership between Nexus and carbon management company, co2balance.

Select a rental car by its CO2 emissions
Fundamental to the scheme is a unique feature we’ve developed to enable customers to select their rental vehicle by CO2 emissions.

Nexus is the first rental provider to offer a service that encompasses virtually the whole UK rental market. Whether accessing vehicles from a large national group or small independent rental company, you will be able to select the vehicle by CO2 emissions and offset the emissions, all within the Nexus reservation process.

We believe this is a major step forward for rental users – and will be particularly valuable for businesses that have clear corporate goals to reduce their carbon footprint.

Offset carbon to aid African families
If you rent a car through us, you will be given the opportunity to offset carbon emissions. The carbon offset scheme supports families in Africa. It is run by co2balance.

The scheme manages the construction of energy saving cooking stoves which replace fuel intensive open fires. This reduces the amount of firewood needed for cooking by over 50%. And provides a less polluted environment.

The low cost of offset
Nexus customers can opt to offset their rental by paying an extra 40p per day as part of the overall rental process. This can be done through the Nexus online booking and management system, IRIS. We have also made a financial commitment to the co2balance scheme.

It is part of our effort to help businesses reduce their impact on climate change. To find out more on climate change and the projects we support, visit www.co2balance.com
