For anyone travelling to Europe in a business car it is essential that they are aware of the legal requirements.
Business car managers must ensure that all drivers have the correct insurance cover; the required equipment; and the documentation before they leave the country.
The equipment required varies between countries – from First-Aid kits and hi-visibility jackets to fire-extinguishers and spare glasses. Along with a driving licence, insurance certificate and original vehicle registration document – or VE103 (Hired/Leased Vehicle Document) if it is a leased vehicle.
Each country also has differing road regulations. These include drink-drive and speed limits as well road signs which motorists need to know.
In many European countries it is now illegal to have a police radar detector device fitted. And in some countries satellite navigation systems with this function activated are also illegal.
Business car managers should ensure that their drivers are educated on the requirements for each country they plan to visit, even if they are only driving through a country to reach another.
In addition, breakdowns on the Continent can not only be inconvenient but also very costly. To avoid hefty repair bills it is advisable to have European Breakdown cover too.
