THE world’s favourite car – and the UK’s second favourite car after the Fiesta – arrives in showrooms this November with a new touchscreen sat nav system featuring Ford’s SYNC2 advanced connectivity system.

The Ford SYNC2 DAB Navigation System will cost £500 as an option in the new Ford Focus Style, Zetec and Zetec S models, and £250 as an option in the new Ford Focus Titanium and Titanium X models.

“CAP, the residual value experts, see navigation systems becoming more popular and therefore having an impact on residual values,” explained Anthony Ireson, Ford’s marketing director.

“They have put a retained value of £250 on our Ford SYNC2 DAB Navigation System in the new Ford Focus, coincidentally the same price as the option on the Titanium and Titanium X models. So business buyers won’t actually lose money by specifying the option.”

Anthony later told Business Car Manager that he and many others in the industry had expected mobile phone apps to drive navigation in the future because of lower costs, “but actually we’ve been proven wrong.

“The preference has swung back to original equipment fit satnav systems because of duty of care considerations for drivers. Company car managers want to ensure the same standard of equipment across the company cars that they manage – and specifying a manufacturer system ensures that.”
