Peugeot says that the 308 marks a shift up-market for its cars with high quality materials and greater attention to design detail

JUST as the new 308 hatch goes on sale in the UK, Peugeot is releasing the first pictures of the Peugeot SW estate version.

Despite wearing the same 308 badge as its predecessor – a Peugeot first – the SW is an all-new car based on the French company’s EMP2 platform.

That means it’s roomier and also quite a bit lighter than before. That, combined with a full range of Euro 6 compliant diesel and petrol engines, means better fuel economy and emissions, with the eco-orientated BlueHDi diesel version achieving an impressive 85g/km of CO2.

Peugeot says that thanks to high-quality materials and attention to detail, the Peugeot 308 SW fits in with its drive to push its cars up-market. The new model also has the new i-Cockpit design, first seen on the 208 last year, a dashboard layout that features a small, low-mounted steering wheel and instrument dials that are viewed over, rather than through, the wheel.

The 308 SW joins an expanding group of new small estates, including Honda’s recently introduced Civic Tourer, Seat’s Leon ST and Volkswagen’s latest Golf Variant. It will go on sale across Europe after its public unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
