THE Frankfurt Motor Show may have only just started but some cars are already starting to attract attention. The new Land Rover Discovery SVX is one.
The SVX will sit at the top of the Discovery range alongside the SVR and SVAutobiography lines, and with enormous power and typical Land Rover ruggedness it will have no problem climbing over everything else to get there. Based on the newly redesigned Discovery this is a member of the Special Vehicle Operations family – the performance and luxury arm of Jaguar Land Rover – and will go into production in 2018.
In case you were wondering, the Land Rover Discovery SVX has a 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 engine. It produces around 520bhp. Uses a Hydraulic Active Roll Control system to increase control and traction. It even has proper chunky tyres – with big orange X’s – on twenty inch alloy wheels. This is a seriously powerful Land Rover.
It shares much with the rest of the Discovery range. You get the same range of equipment to choose from but there are a few extra touches such as the SVX branded seats finished in exclusive upholstery, black V8-badged side vents, Black roof rails, and a two additional lights on the roof to make sure you can find your way home.
It’s an angry looking thing too. That grey finish with the orange flashes is very distinctive so you’ll know to move over should one appear in your rear view mirror. Or even better, everyone else will know to move out of your way when you turn up in one as your next company car.
Why not?
It’s practical, versatile, comfortable, roomy, and very well equipped. The fact that it has an awesome V8 engine and can climb like Spiderman is besides the point.
Please note: It is unlikely the Land Rover Discovery SVX can climb like Spiderman. We made that bit up, please don’t try it.
