THE Frankfurt Motor Show is packed full of concepts that may or may not make it into production. If there is one high-end concept that really should make it off the production line it’s the BMW X7 iPerformance.
Luckily that is exactly what will happen some time in 2018.
The BMW X7 iPerformance doesn’t just pull back the covers on a new model concept for the luxury segment, it is also introducing a whole new take on luxury for the BMW brand. It’s likely to prove popular amongst company directors and owners looking for an imposing car.
The Concept X7 iPerformance demonstrates this luxury in the form of a striking exterior, combined with a generously-sized, six-person interior packed with high-class materials and a state-of-the-art infotainment system brimming with connectivity.
The iPerformance badge denotes BMW eDrive technology, together with a BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine to create a plug-in hybrid powertrain that excels in all driving situations – including running with zero local emissions.
The BMW X7 iPerformance is as enormous as it is luxurious. The sheer size of the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance supposedly “projects the exclusive experience available inside the car confidently to the outside world.” If your goal is to shout “LOOK AT ME!” then you’re on to a winner. There is no denying this is a seriously impressive vehicle.
Albeit a little on the angular side. No doubt there will be many who look at the X7 and decide it’s a bit ugly. We see where you might be coming from – it is a little bit Thunderbirds – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The front end of the new X7 is distinctive but we suspect it will grow on you as time goes by.
The whole purpose of the BMW X7 iPerformance is to send out an impressive statement. It is going to have to go head to head with other high-end, luxury SUVs so it needs to stand out to be noticed in that particular market.
Congratulations to BMW on building a car that fits the brief so spectacularly.
