FOR leaders of business with a green conscience, step forward the new Bentley Mulsanne Hybrid.

Known officially as the Bentley Hybrid Concept, the car will be shown at the Beijing Motor Show on 20 April to showcase Bentley’s first plug-in hybrid model.

By the end of the decade, at least 90% of our production will be available as a plug-in hybrid

More importantly, the drivetrain will appear in the new Bentley SUV due in 2017.

Bentley says its plug-in hybrid system will offer a power increase of up to 25% while reducing CO2 emissions by a staggering 70% and yet retaining the exquisite luxury and timeless design and refinement for which Bentley has become renowned.

For a Bentley Mulsanne that means CO2 emissions of around 120g/km! But also some 600bhp! Quite some car then…

What’s more, Bentley hybrids will also be capable of driving at least 50 km (30 miles) on electric power alone. So you should be able to drive – waft, even – silently around the city.

“There is no doubt that plug-in hybrid technology is true to Bentley’s values of outstanding luxury and effortless performance,” commented Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors.
