THE Mr reliability crown sits firmly on the head – or bonnet, perhaps – of Hyundai’s i30 hatchback, the car company’s Ford Focus competitor.

The Hyundai i30 beat the 2009 winner, the Jaguar XF – which finished second this year – and the Skoda Octavia, which finished in third place in the Auto Express Driver Power Top 100. This is the first time a Korean maker has won in nine years of the survey.

Completed by over 23,000 drivers, Driver Power is the definitive poll on car reliability and satisfaction, says Auto Express, the weekly motoring magazine.

Auto Express said: “The i30 has proved more satisfying to own than models which claim to offer better quality, greater driving involvement and stronger desirability.”

Editor in chief David Johns added: “Over the years, owners have told us what good value its cars are. This is the final proof that Hyundais can now match that with real all-round reliability and satisfaction.”

While it was good news for Hyundai, Ford’s current Focus came resolutely mid-table – in 51st place. And it was an even worse story for Vauxhall. Its previous-generation Corsa supermini finished at the bottom of the Top 100, while the MkIV Astra was just one place above it, in 99th position.

In the manufacturer rankings, Skoda came top, above luxury brand Lexus in second. Bottom were Jeep, Chevrolet and Peugeot.
