BUSINESS owners and sole traders, who are still undecided about taking advantage of the government’s scrappage grant, can still get a new car and £2000 off at Hyundai’s dealers.

Hyundai is planning to continue the £2000 incentive with a ‘Trade and Upgrade’ programme. Trade and Upgrade offers owners of seven to 10 year old cars in Britain the same £2,000 allowance offered to scrappage customers.

Unlike similar schemes from other manufacturers, says Hyundai, Trade and Upgrade allows buyers to choose any new car from the Hyundai range, not just the more expensive models.

“We have learnt some valuable lessons from the 33,000 people who have bought cars from us under the scrappage scheme,” said Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai’s managing director.

“They love transparent pricing. They hate haggling. And if they see a good deal they will snap it up. What we are offering post scrappage will build on this experience,” added Mr Whitehorn.

Small business owners and traders who want to take advantage of the Trade and Upgrade scheme can head for some of the key business cars in the Hyundai range.

These include the Hyundai i10 city car; Hyundai i30 family hatchback, which is also available with fuel-saving start-stop technology; redesigned Hyundai Santa Fe 4×4; and Hyundai i800 eight-seater people carrier, ideal for private vehicle hire firms.

Hyundai is also launching a dramatic-looking all-new crossover model called iX35 in March (see editor’s blog New Hyundai iX35 made for business).

Drivers who use their own private car for business can claim 40p per mile tax-free for the first 10,000 business miles under the Approved Mileage Allowance Payments (AMAP) scheme.

Buyers who have bought a Hyundai under the government’s scrappage scheme can upgrade to a new ’10’ registration plate in March from as little as £499 under another Hyundai incentive scheme called Happy Returns.
