Hyundai i20: lower company car tax and Bluetooth

THE good value i20 supermini from Hyundai now looks even better value.

There are engine changes and spec enhancements that make the i20 from Hyundai – a Business Car Manager partner – even better value for business car drivers.

The best-selling 1.2-litre petrol engine benefits from lowered CO2 emissions by 5g/km to 119g/km. That means it drops into the lowest company car tax benefit-in-kind band of just 10%, while road tax costs just £30.

The higher powered 1.4-litre version has a 13g/km improvement in CO2 emissions, with the Style models now at 129g/km (15% tax band). This results in a drop of two Vehicle Excise Duty bands and a 4.3mpg improvement in fuel economy.

The two diesel engines also see significant savings, with the 75PS model dropping by 6g/km to just 110g/km (13% company car tax band). The 90PS version gains a six-speed gearbox which helps it achieve a 7.2% improvement in fuel economy.

Hyundai says that these improvements have been made possible by adding a small spoiler to the underneath of the car to improve airflow around the wheels, the fitment of an Eco Drive indicator in the instrument panel to suggest the best gear change points, utilising low friction engine oil and an alternator management system.

Inside, the Hyundai i20 now benefits from bluetooth phone connectivity with voice recognition, which is standard on all models except the entry-level Classic.

Meanwhile, the dashboard and instrument illumination is now blue rather than red, bringing the i20 into line with larger Hyundai models.

The new Hyundai i20 prices start at £9,520, which includes an unlimited mileage five year warranty, anti-skid ESP and air conditioning as standard.
