Jaguar XF Diesel S Portfolio with Aerodynamic and Dynamic Pack road test

Jaguar XF Diesel S Portfolio

Jaguar XF Diesel S Portfolio with Aerodynamic and Dynamic Pack

What is it?

THE fastest diesel-engined XF you can buy, with the looks of the flagship XFR thanks to a new £1,500 optional Aerodynamics Pack. Buyers can also specify a £1,250 Dynamics Pack which brings 20-inch alloys and adaptive suspension. We’ve tested both packs on a top spec Portfolio car taking the total price to a whopping £48,350.

What’s hot?

  • Aero kit adds front spoiler, black grille, side skirts…
  • …only misses out on XFR’s bonnet louvres. Looks subtly muscular
  • Dynamics pack’s 20-inch wheels finish things off nicely
  • New cabin for 2010 brings even more supportive seats
  • Smooth, quiet 271bhp 3.0-litre diesel is stormingly rapid…
  • …with 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds
  • Yet returns 42mpg and emits 178g/km
  • Beautifully balanced and involving handling
  • Big wheels add road noise but adaptive suspension keeps ride soothing
  • Portfolio trim brings awesome Bowers & Wilkins stereo
  • Real feeling of quality throughout

What’s not?

  • Even in Portfolio trim, the XF is expensive, never mind the option packs
  • Rivals have more rear headroom
  • If we’re nit-picking the steering could have a little more weight
  • Only 10% corporation tax writing down allowance

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Taking a leaf out of BMW’s M Sport book, Jaguar’s new range of accessory packs allows business drivers to have the looks of the flagship V8 petrol version but with the running costs of a diesel. It’s a winning, if expensive, combination that enhances an already very desirable luxury car. If it were our money, we’d look further down the range at the ‘entry-level’ Diesel S Luxury, which starts at £38,600.
