Kia Picanto 2 Eco Dynamics road test report

Kia Picanto 1.25 litre ISG 2 Eco Dynamics

What is it?

ALL-NEW five door model of the Kia Picanto city car. A three-door model follows later, but this is the five-door, tested in 1.25-litre mid-range trim called 2, fitted with fuel saving stop and start Eco Dynamics technology. Priced at £10,195 on the road.

What’s hot?

  • It’s a small car that feels big on the inside
  • Quality trim levels are superb
  • Noise suppression is good, motorway speed is refined
  • Plenty of space for front occupants…
  • …and enough for those in the rear when you want to carry four
  • CO2 of 100g/km means Picanto exempt from London Congestion Charge
  • Plus there’s 100% first year capital allowances on purchase
  • And company car tax of 10% (2011/12)
  • Fuel economy is impressive 65.7mpg
  • Standard equipment includes alloys, electric windows and Bluetooth
  • Plus USB and AUX ports plus an iPod cable
  • Anti-skid ESC system plus anti-lock ABS brakes
  • All backed up by Kia’s huge seven-year warranty

What’s not?

  • The gearing is tuned for economy…
  • …so expect to use the gears on any incline…
  • …and the throttle which will hurt economy
  • Electric power steering gives odd feel-less experience
  • Either too light or to much false resistance

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

The new Kia Picanto is a stylish – forget those droopy-eyed looks of its predecessor – and economical city car with space for four. It’s well made, refined and stable on the motorway. Add in the 100% first year capital allowances and London congestion charge exemption, and the new Kia Picanto Eco Dynamics is a great value for money small business car offering sub 100g/km motoring for just over £10,000. And all backed up by the reassurance of Kia’s massive seven-year warranty.
