Laguna Coupe serves up the style

Renault Laguna Coupe

Renault Laguna Coupe 2.0dCi180 FAP

Renault Laguna Coupe GT 2.0dCi180 FAP

What is it?

ONE of the most stylish Renaults ever – and a properly desirable, yet affordable coupe. Based on the Laguna hatchback, the Coupe gets a slightly sportier chassis with four-wheel steering and a wide range of engines, including V6 petrol and diesel units. Tested here in more business-friendly 177bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder dCi form

What’s hot?

  • Looks svelte from every angle…
  • …particularly from behind thanks to that Aston V8 Vantage tail
  • Cabin quality is excellent. Superb seats
  • Equipment levels are sky-high with climate control and leather
  • Diesel engine is quiet and lusty…
  • …resulting in refined motorway cruising and punchy overtaking
  • Four-wheel steering system helps slice through corners
  • Returns 43.4mpg combined is impressive
  • Surprising amount of rear seat space. Decent boot

What’s not?

  • Ride is too firm, especially over small bumps
  • Steering is lightly weighted and vague…
  • …while the gearchange feels rubbery
  • Cabin design should be more special
  • Emissions are too high at 172g/km of CO2…
  • …which means it’s the 10% WDA banding
  • Residual values may be a problem

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

If you want a coupe that handles like a proper sports car, go for a VW Scirocco. But if you want one that packs almost as much visual drama as an Aston Martin, is quiet and surprisingly practical, then the Laguna Coupe should be on your list.
