A new generation of electronics and connectivity will include a ‘virtual cockpit’ in the new Audi TT

AUDI has been giving car buyers the first clues about the next TT at Las Vegas’ Consumer Electronics Show.

That might seem like an unlikely venue for a sneaky car launch, but Audi is only showing the TT’s dashboard and instruments because it wants to emphasise the importance of the new model’s in-car systems.

According to Audi’s development boss Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, “The first Audi TT was the design icon per se, the second generation was even sportier, right through to the TT RS plus with its five-cylinder TFSI and 360PS. And with the new Audi TT, the driver will be able to experience the technology to an even greater extent – just as would be expected from a genuine sports car. And it comes with a new generation of electronics and connectivity features.”

The new dash features a “virtual cockpit” with a fully digital instrument cluster. That’s not quite an industry first but such displays are still a comparative rarity. Audi says the new set-up allows it to dispense with the central MMI (multimedia interface) screen seen on previous cars, while other switchgear has been dispersed in the interests of the new uncluttered look, with the air conditioning and heating controls, for example, now being housed in the vents.
