I HAVE now lived with our former SME Large Company Car winner, the Mazda6 Tourer in 150PS 2.2 Skyactiv-D Sport Nav trim for two-months and in this Mazda6 Tourer first long-term review can say I am settling in nicely to life with this car.

So far, on top of daily drives, I have managed three journeys of 400 miles – and have found each of them to be smooth and comfortable.

We’ve opted for the more practical Tourer estate version and I think the luggage space is phenomenal! Our Mazda easily takes four sets of golf clubs, plus bags and even four adults in comfort – as leg room is generous.

The Mazda6 arrived in February with just delivery mileage, but over the course of 2,200 miles has loosened up nicely, proving to be torquy and responsive. Our best economy figure is 48.9mpg, which is getting closer to the official 67.3mpg figure. The long-legged sixth gear really helps, I mean under 2,000 revs at 70mph is impressive.

Mazda6 Tourer first long-term review: favourite features

My favourite standard feature of my Mazda has to be the head-up display, which is a tremendous help in everyday driving – I really do wonder why we have waited so long for this clever technology!

It even detects if you take your hands off the wheel – not that it is a regular occurrence!

It might be the Tourer estate, but the Mazda6 Tourer’s sleek lines turns heads and many of my friends have commented how much they love the shape. The midnight blue and leather interior are certainly classy and makes the car feel quite grown up.

The rest of my family approve of the Mazda too, my kids like it, because there’s plenty of room – even when I need to separate them! My wife likes it too, but struggles with the automatic handbrake.

We’re both certainly appreciating the Sport Nav’s simple and efficient touch screen display – plus the sat nav is easy to operate and of a high standard.

So to sum up, I think our Mazda6 Tourer is a posh-looking estate, with a spacious interior, that is a smooth and comfortable drive – with useful toys. It certainly matches up to the lines and sleekness of the German estate next door…
