Mercedes-Benz S-Class car review – is it the best car in the world?

Effortless comfort and more than a turn of speed. And you could run one as a company car without raising eyebrows too.

The ride is incredibly supple, and with Magic Body Control (sadly an extra) even speed bumps magically disappear

What’s hot?

  • The new S-Class has one of the finest interiors in the motoring world. Everything simply feels expensive and intricately engineered.
  • You can go for an Executive seat package in the rear, allowing you to recline up to 43.5 degrees, and with a legrest, too. It means you’re basically lying down.
  • A wif-fi hotspot is good for catching up on e-mails, and if you go for the massage seats you can pick one of six different relaxing programs.

  • The refinement in this car is amongst the best on the market. At 70mph there is literally no wind or engine noise. You hear a slight roar from the tyres and the gentle thud of the suspension but nothing else.
  • The ride is incredibly supple, too, gently cosseting passengers over really harsh roads. And with Magic Body Control fitted you can go over speed bumps without even knowing they’re there. It really is that good.
  • The engines are now more company car tax friendly. The S350 BlueTEC emits just 146g/km. Alternatively, an S300 BlueTEC Hybrid arrives in spring 2014 and high-rate payers will end up paying about £1500 less tax per year by opting for it over the standard S350 diesel.
  • An S500 Plug-in Hybrid will debut in September this year, and comes with figures of more than 90mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 71g/km. That means you’ll pay just 5% in company car tax – for an S-Class!
