For high-power small business owners and entrepreneurs, there

For high-power small business owners and entrepreneurs, there’s a new high-power Audi S4 to choose from.

The new Audi S4 saloon and Audi S4 Avant go on sale in April. Order books open November. Price will be around £36,000.

The new S4 range manages to boost power to 333PS while achieving a 27% improvement in fuel consumption: now 29.1mpg. CO2 emissions are reduced to 225g/km – 30% less than the previous S4. It moves the Audi S4 down two company car bands from 35% to 33%.

The Audi S4 now features a V6 engine rather than the previous car’s V8. Although the 3.0-litre V6 engine bears the Audi ‘TFSI’ designation – signifying a single turbo with FSI direct fuel injection in the Audi naming system – rather confusingly the new S4 is actually supercharged, rather than turbocharged.

Supercharging the engine has the benefit of more instant throttle response than using one or two smaller turbos.

The quattro four-wheel system has been developed, too. As well as modifying the amount of power to front and back wheels, it can also vary the amount to each rear wheel for more secure cornering.

The new Audi S4 quattro will also be available with Audi’s fast-shifting
S tronic twin-clutch seven-speed auto. This can work in either full auto or manual modes. Fuel economy improves to 30.1mpg with this option.

The Audi S4 was launched at the Paris show (pictured).
