The 16 specified drugs
The 16 specified drugs include a wide range of illegal substances and medicinal products

The 16 specified drugs

‘Zero tolerance’:

  • Cannabis;
  • Cocaine;
  • MDMA (Ecstasy);
  • LSD;
  • Ketamine;
  • Heroin;
  • Methylamphetamine

Medicinal:

Benzodiazepines:

  • Clonazepam;
  • Diazepam;
  • Flunitrazepam;
  • Lorazepam;
  • Oxazepam;
  • Temazepam (used to treat anxiety or inability to sleep)

Others:

  • Methadone (used to treat drug addiction);
  • Morphine (used to treat pain);
  • Amphetamine (used to treat ADHD, expected later in 2015 once a limit has been agreed)

Limits have been set for these drugs to reflect their use as medicines, with limits based on the available evidence of the road safety risk.

The majority of those taking medicines in accordance with the advice of a healthcare professional and/or printed in the accompany leaflet are unlikely to be above the specified limit and therefore will not be affected.
