The Honda Accord saloon, and Honda Accord Tourer estate, will be available with a five-speed automatic from January 2009.

It is the first time that Honda has produced an automatic gearbox for Accord diesel.

The auto box has been built and developed by Honda engineers specifically for the Accord’s 150PS i-DTEC engine and the 300Nm of pulling power it produces.

“The new automatic means the Accord will appeal to a new segment of customers, particularly business users with high mileages. They often only consider a car if it has an automatic transmission,” commented Graham Avent, manager – corporate sales, Honda.

The fuel economy of the Honda Accord diesel auto saloon is 44.1mpg; and 42.8mpg for the Tourer.
