THE NEW Hyundai Kona will arrive in the UK in the next few weeks following a well received introduction at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Kona is the third SUV in the Hyundai family, alongside the larger Santa Fe and Tucson models, and being a compact SUV – or B-Segment to be technical – it will go head-to-head with the likes of the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur.

Prices start from £16,195 for the entry-level Kona S 1.0 T-GDi 120PS 6-speed manual. Interior equipment includes cloth upholstery and practical 60/40 split folding rear seats. S trim level also features air conditioning with rear air vents in the centre console, automatic headlamps with LED positioning lamps and LED daytime running lamps.

DAB and Bluetooth connectivity is standard throughout the Kona range, with the S also featuring a 5-inch LCD centre console display, steering wheel controls for audio, telephone and cruise control operation and a 3.5-inch LCD multifunction instrument cluster.

There’s an awful lot of standard equipment across the entire range that should meet the needs of most company car drivers.

The Kona SE 1.0 T-GDi 120PS Manual builds on the S trim level with larger 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and fog lamps. Additional SE equipment includes leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob and electric driver’s seat lumbar support. Kona SE models also feature rear parking sensors and rear camera and 7” touchscreen centre console display with smartphone connectivity as standard. Prices for the SE will start from £17,495.

Each step up the range adds more external features and a more luxuriously appointed interior.

The Kona Premium adds more trim and also introduces climate control with automatic defog function, automatic windscreen wipers and solar glass to the front windows and windscreen, with privacy glass to the rear windows and tailgate glass. You also get keyless entry, a high end KRELL premium audio system which is controlled via an 8-inch touchscreen centre console display with satellite navigation.

Premium SE builds on the already comprehensive Premium specification by adding leather seat facings to the heated seats, a heated steering wheel for cold winter mornings, and front parking sensors. The new Hyundai Kona Premium SE also adds a Head Up Display (HUD) which projects speed, navigation, fuel levels, warning functions such as Blind Spot Detection and Lane Keeping Assist, as well as information on telephone connectivity and audio, directly to the drivers line of sight.

The Premium trim level starts from £18,795 while the additional extras in the Premium SE push the price up to £21,195. All of these models carry the same 1.0 -litre T-GDi three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and 6-speed manual gearbox.

Sitting at the top of the new Hyundai Kona range is the Premium GT 1.6 T-GDi priced from £24,995. The focus here is on technology – as well as the more powerful engine, seven-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes:

  • full LED headlamps with High Beam Assist;
  • LED rear lights, and
  • larger 4.2-inch LCD multifunction instrument display.

The Kona Premium GT also adds the Safety Pack which includes Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition.

There is a lot to commend in the new Hyundai Kona range with its wide range of standard equipment and sufficient choice for you to specify exactly what you want.

More importantly, there will be a great many company car drivers who are going to see the low BIK tax rates and running costs and wonder why they would ever choose anything else.
