The all-new 911 has broken cover. The biggest changes are under its mildly revised skin.
The new Porsche 911 model will feature direct injection 3.6- and 3.8-litre engines and be offered with a double-clutch transmission.
There will be four models in the new Porsche 911 line-up: two coupes; and two cabriolets.
Prices range from £63,070 for the Carrera 3.6 coupe to £77,650 for the Carrera S 3.8 cabriolet. The Carrera S 3.8 coupe and Carrera 3.6 cabriolet are each priced at £70,360. New Turbo and GT variants will arrive next year.
The use of direct injection helps to cut the Carrera 3.6’s CO2 emissions to 225g/km, which puts it into the 33% company car tax band. Fuel economy is 29.4mpg.
As well as being cleaner, the 345bhp 3.6-litre engine is 20bhp more powerful than the outgoing 911. The 3.8-litre engine has also been boosted, by 30bhp to 385bhp. This gives the Carrera S 3.8 coupe a top speed of 188mph.
The Porsche 911 will have the option of a double-clutch transmission for the first times. Called PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe), it is a seven-speed automatic that gives sequential manual gearshifts when desired. It’s 13% more fuel efficient than the Tiptronic S transmission that it replaces. And 60% faster than a conventional auto.
The PDK gearbox costs an additional £2338.
The new Porsche 911 features only subtle visual changes. It has larger mirrors, new front air intakes, a different rear valance, newly designed 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels and LED/bi-xenon lights.
The interior, too, is decidedly evolutionary. The display monitor has grown to 6.5 inches and, for the first time, features touch-screen satellite navigation. All new 911s are equipped with Porsche’s vehicle tracking system.
