YOU like the car, you like the emissions, the price, the whole life running costs – but the new Skoda Fabia has one more ace up its metal sleeve to hook you in: built-in telematics.
Called SmartGate, the car can ‘talk’ to a smartphone via Bluetooth to offer basic telematic knowledge through an app such as:
- What is my average fuel economy?
- What is my average speed?
Think of it as one of those health monitor apps linked to your smartphone that can measure your wellbeing on the move – how many steps have I taken? How far have I run?
Except it’s for your car.
According to head of fleet sales at Skoda, Patrick McGillycuddy, the telematics are built into the car and will be a feature of all new Skodas in the future, including the new Superb, due late 2015.
“What we need to do is bring SmartGate to life for the new Fabia, and all Skodas going forward,” said Patrick.
“And then we need to explore what meaningful information SmartGate can deliver to an SME director who is in charge of the firm’s company cars.”
SmartGate is a £100 option on the new Skoda Fabia.
