The petrol or diesel debate is no longer as clear cut as it used to be. Comparing petrol and diesel versions of the latest Peugeot 308 shows why

OKAY, so they may cost more to buy, but diesel models have always been king in company car circles. Mainly because of the fuel economy, plus lower tax and insurance costs.

However, despite many companies dictating that their fleets must run on diesel, or perhaps a hybrid option, the advent of smaller, more efficient turbocharged petrol engines has clouded this judgement.

What rubbish I hear you say.

Well, let’s compare two versions of the current Car of The Year, the Peugeot 308 in Active trim – one with the Pure Tech 1.2 e-THP petrol engine and the other a 1.6 e-HDi 115 diesel to see which wins out of petrol or diesel.
