Under normal conditions, rather than blasting around the mountains above Nice, the stiffer suspension allows every bump in the road to thud its way through the cabin and directly up your spine. The raucous boom from the exhaust might also get a little too much if you’re subjected to it every time you trundle up the motorway to another meeting.
If you’re happy to put up with that, then there’s plenty of space in the car up front, but the rear seats really are … well, they’re there but there’s not much of them. At least there’s a very spacious boot.
It’s also quite an economical car in theory. The small engine and light weight means it manages an official combined mpg figure of 44.8, with CO2 emissions of 145g/km. Impressive for the performance.
What’s hot
- Looks stunning
- Exceptional road holding
- Genuinely involving drive
- High tech gadgetry doesn’t interfere too much
- Surprisingly economical
- Decent equipment levels across the entire range
- Handling is predictable and engaging with plenty of grip
- Low price point combined with low CO2 means surprisingly low company car tax bills for such a performance car
What’s not
- Ride quality suffers at low speeds
- Rear seats must be some kind of joke
- Noisy exhaust sounds great but is tiresome on long runs
- Long doors prone to catching kerbs and other cars
- Low roofline means you bang your head frequently when getting in and out
- Boot is big but quite shallow with a high lip
