UK temperatures rarely dip below freezing but that hasn’t stopped the introduction of the limited edition Nissan Navara Trek-1° pickup to these shores.

Just so we’re clear, that’s a very bad pun on our part. The name actually comes from the geographical location of the Navarre desert in northern Spain, -1° longitude to be exact. As there are no deserts in the UK we thought a traditional British reference to terrible weather might be more apt.

So moving on swiftly before the rotten tomatoes start flying.

The high tech Trek-1° specification is based on the range topping Tekna double cab pickup with a few additions. The added extras include sport styling bars with forward facing LED spot lamps, exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels, and a new load bed cover. Added to the already rugged looks of the Navara the extras bring a definite sense of cool to the mix.

You can specify the Nissan Navara Trek-1° in two colours – Black Metallic or a unique Storm White – with extra decals to finish the limited edition styling.

Inside the cab you get the NissanConnect infotainment system with SatNav and DAB radio. You also get 360° Around View Monitor, rear parking sensors, and LED headlights. Sticking with the range topping feel of the Tekna there is also leather upholstery and heated front seats.

The mechanical bits include a 2.3-litre diesel engine that produces plenty of power to make the most of the four-wheel drive. Like all pick-ups economy is not a strong suit but with figures of 44mpg with a manual gearbox, 40mpg in the automatic, the Nissan Navara Trek-1° isn’t as thirsty as you might think.

Considering the Nissan Navara Trek-1° can carry a tonne in weight and tow 3.5 tonnes those figures are more than reasonable.

Limited Edition Nissan Navara Trek-1
Just as capable on the road

Despite being capable of travelling between A and B in a dead straight line regardless of how many humps and bumps may lie between, the Navara Trek-1 is equally at home in town. A pickup is just as easy to drive in traffic as any other car, and thanks to the raised seating position you might actually stand a chance of being able to see the cause of the traffic jams.

Astute company car drivers have already picked up on the fact that there are financial reasons for choosing a pick up truck. Thanks to a quirk of the tax code the benefit in kind tax on a double cab pickup is generally less than that of a car. A pickup may not be the obvious choice for a lot of people but with stylish looks, decent ride quality, and well equipped interiors, the high spec variants are a viable option.

Add to that the fact that Nissan are only producing 400 examples of the Navara Trek-1° and there’s plenty of reasons why it could be worth checking it out.

With prices for the limited edition Navara Trek-1 starting from £35,065 if you are going to order one we suggest you get a move on.
