THE Infiniti Q60 Black S concept that was revealed at the recent Geneva Motor Show might look like an escapee from the nearest race track with its aggressive, downforce-generating body kit, the 21-inch alloys and that huge wing on the boot.

But considering this Infiniti’s purposeful new look, the Black S, which is based on the standard Q60 coupe, is – you’ll be surprised to hear – actually a hybrid!

Designed to celebrate Infiniti’s recently established relationship with the Renault Grand Prix team, the Q60 Black S uses an F1-style KERS power recovery system, which rather than saving petrol increases the performance from 400 to 500bhp!

Another Black S improvement over the standard Q60 Coupe is the acceleration which we’re told will drop from the already impressive 5.0 seconds to the low 4s  – or even high 3s – all because of the instant lag-free acceleration from the KERS system.

Sadly unlikely to make production because of the cost, the Q60 Black S is however interesting as it shows how F1 technology could work on a road car, with both Infiniti and Renault F1 engineers working together at the team’s French base for this concept.

Also new in Geneva at the Infiniti stand was the roadgoing new Q60 Coupe with 2.0T and 3.0T V6 engines with prices from £34,305 – and the Sunderland built QX30 crossover priced from £29,820.

 Updated Infiniti Q50 saloon

Also featuring on Infiniti’s Geneva stand were facelifted versions of the Q50 saloon. Powered by a new twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine with 300 and 400bhp outputs, the facelifted Q50 also boasts improved dynamics.

In addition, a range-topping Premium Plus trim level comes with

  • Electric steering wheel adjustment;
  • Upgraded infotainment system;
  • Split-folding rear seats;
  • Voice recognition.

Safety equipment is also improved with the Technology Package and Driver Assistance Packages, which bring a variety of safety equipment that’s aimed at garnering a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating.
