ADAPTIVE damping was once the preserve of the most expensive sports and luxury cars but now it looks set to enter the company car mainstream when it is offered in the next Honda Civic Tourer estate.

The European-designed and UK-built Civic Tourer will offer a world first, says Honda with the rear Adaptive Damper System.

Drivers will be able to choose one of three different suspension settings – comfort, normal and dynamic – which they can select according to mood and road conditions.

The new Honda Civic Tourer will make its first appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and go on sale in 2014. I

The Civic Tourer’s other big selling point as far as company car drivers are concerned is likely to be Honda’s recently introduced smooth and economical 1.6-litre diesel engine, already seen on the Civic hatch and the CR-V SUV.

The 1.6 Honda diesel engine delivers 94g/km CO2 and a company car tax band of 13% in the Civic hatch; and 149g/km CO2 and a company car tax band of 24% in the CR-V SUV.
