What is it?

THE market is full of compact SUVs, so you need something different to stand out. And that’s where the distinctive Mazda CX-3 comes in.

What Mazda has done is create a fine looking machine that promises is a more entertaining drive than many of its run-of-the-mill rivals.

Following Mazda’s ‘Kodo: Soul of Motion’ design philosophy, the Mazda CX-3 is full of sharp lines and sensuous curves, making this compact SUV appear far bigger. The distinctive design follows on inside the car, with a cabin that’s driver focused and subtly stylish.

There’s a limited range of engine options, but they’re well matched to the car. Private buyers will favour the 120ps petrol engine, with a more powerful 150ps AWD version also available. Company car drivers covering any distance will appreciate the torquey 1.5-litre diesel, with its 105hp and 70.6+mpg economy.

Benefit in kind company car tax starts from £96 on this Sport Nav model with two-wheel drive.

The Mazda CX-3 range has a company car tax banding starting from 26% with benefit in kind company car tax from £86 a month for a 20% tax payer.

Verdict on the Mazda CX-3 105ps 2WD Sport Nav

Mazda’s decision to go its own way and create a stylish compact SUV has paid dividends. Mazda has nailed the brief and created something that stands out from the me-too designs of its rivals.

Great economy is a hallmark of the Mazda CX-3, while company car tax starts from £96 on this Sport Nav modelHyundai’s Kona and the Volkswagen T-Roc get close in design terms, but can’t match the enthusiastic nature of the Mazda CX-3. It stops short of being sportscar-like, but it’s as engaging to drive as the best of its competitors.

The diesel engine lacks a little punch, but the economy of 70.6mpg is the plus side along with a BIK company car tax band of just 26%. A lengthy equipment list, excellent comfort, and just enough practicality to be viable as a family car add strength to the offering.
