SKODA has unveiled its fastest production Octavia yet – the latest version of the sporty vRS model.
In petrol-engined form is capable of reaching speeds as high as 154 mph, and blasting from rest to 62 mph in just 6.8 seconds. There’s also a diesel vRS which can get from 0 to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 144.
The vRS is Skoda’s answer to the Golf GTI
The two Octavia vRS models are Skoda’s answer to the VW Golf GTI and GTD with which they share the Volkswagen group’s MQB platform.
Skoda hasn’t released much in the way of detailed data but says that the new cars will be up to 19 per cent more efficient than their predecessors.
There’s a choice of six-speed manual or self-shifting DSG gearboxes and – also shared with the Golf GTI and Golf GTD – the XDS electronic differential lock and “progressive” variable ratio steering. Other goodies include bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights.
For company car drivers thinking of a hot hatch, the vRS has to be a consideration.
The new Skoda Octavia vRS will make its worldwide debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on 10 July.
