Small firms can benefit from car management expertise

BUSINESS car managers at small firms are being offered the chance to benefit from larger company expertise

The Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) is making a concerted effort to entice smaller firms to join its organisation.

ACFO is a non-profit making organisation that provides a platform for managers of large car fleets to interact, share experiences and find solutions to common problems. It also represents company car managemers in government and other circles.

Membership of ACFO cost L170 plus VAT each year. Size is not a factor in membership, says ACFO.

“Small fleets get particular benefit, meeting one on one with professionals and experienced fleet managers from larger fleets,” commented Julie Jenner, ACFO chairman. “Some of the techniques may not be transferable – but many are. A large percentage of our members run fewer than 25 vehicles.”

ACFO pointed out that in most Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) it’s the company directors or senior managers that run the firm’s company cars.

“Some of these people may have an interest in vehicles, but it is unlikely that they have the necessary detailed knowledge needed on the full range of fleet issues,” added Stewart Whyte, ACFO membership director.

“Larger fleets with an experienced or even a full-time fleet manager already know how complex it can be to keep operations legally compliant and cost-effective. However, ACFO can fill that knowledge gap through the willing exchange of data and techniques for good practice.”

Small businesses interested in ACFO should go to the ‘How to join us’ section on the ACFO website: https://www.acfo.org/how_to_join.php.
