SUCCESS makes people happy and brings even better results so it’s no wonder the booming UK automotive industry including the leasing sector has starred in the latest Sunday Times Best Companies listings.

Top of the Best 25 Big Companies at No1 was Inchcape UK, up from 8th, with Sytner Group runner-up for a second year.

But up with the big boys and shining among the Best 100 Small Companies was the sponsor of the Business Vans Awards Vanarama in 27th place – well above companies like Naked Wines and People’s Lottery – and they celebrated with a staff fancy dress day.

Close behind Vanarama in 34th was The Right Fuelcard Company (TRFC) with a 3 Star Accreditation – the highest accolade a company can receive – for “exceptional” levels of employee’s engagement.

TRFC also received a special ‘Discovering Potential Award’ for the pioneering Bayford Foundation – a dedicated training arm which has forged strong partnerships with community organisations such as the Prince’s Trust and Probation Service.

Among the Best 100 Mid-Sized Companies Toyota (GB) was 54th and car supermarket Motorpoint up 34 places to 58th, with Zenith Vehicle Contracts close behind and JCT600 84th  – bringing a huge celebration party for all 2,500 staff – among the cream of hundreds of companies nominated.

The Best Companies to Work For concept was devised by Best Companies over a decade ago to recognise excellence in employee engagement.

Every year thousands of companies from a wide range of industries work with Best Companies to measure the level of engagement among employees through a survey in a areas such as Leadership, Personal Growth and Wellbeing.

Responses are collated and only those with the highest level of overall employee engagement qualify for the Top 100.

Inchcape, with more than 100 sites and 5,417 staff in the UK including the fleet division, has operations in more than 25 other countries and revenues of £2.47 billion in 2014. Leicester-based Sytner, now part of US-based Penske, has 6,355 employees across 86 sites selling prestige and premium brands.

These two topped a list including Nationwide Building Society, American Express, Admiral Group, Marriott Hotels, Halfords (18th) and TrustFord, Ford’s retail arm, which was 23rd.
