SPENCER Blake looks forward to chairing BVRLA’s Leasing Broker Committee. Wessex Fleet Solutions sales director Spencer takes over as vice-chairman from Paul Huxford of PHVC.

Spencer will become committee chairman when current chairman Mike Potter of Fleetdrive steps down in May 2017, while Paul continues to serve on the committee.

The move comes as Matt Dyer, managing director of LeasePlan UK, is named as vice-chairman of the BVRLA to take over as chairman of the association when current chairman Simon Oliphant steps down in May 2017. Click here for details.

Spencer says he looks forward to taking over from Mike Potter as Leasing Broker Committee chairman next year, commenting: “I have been on the committee for the last three years and have enjoyed being a voice that is helping shape a robust Leasing Broker marketplace.”

Spencer Blake co-founded Salisbury-based Wessex Fleet Solutions in 2004 with Tim McNally,  the two having met while working for Enterprise Rent a Car on their graduate training programme.

Spencer recalls: “I worked for Enterprise for over seven years and when I left was an area manager covering the South Central region.  Enterprise place customer service at the forefront of everything they do and this same ethos runs through Wessex Fleet.

“We have grown in those 12 years from the two of us in a tiny office,  to over 30 employees with a current fleet in excess of 5,000 vehicles.

“We offer a full outsourced fleet management provision including daily rental,  in-house maintenance,  licence checks,  and driver training and can tailor a bespoke offering to meet a client’s needs.

“Our online Wessex Drive system can be used to manage grey fleets as well as the regular company vehicles.  Drivers are required to complete monthly online maintenance checks using our app,  the information is fed into our system, providing a permanent record of each vehicle which helps to ensure the client is covering their Duty of Care obligations.

We also have a dedicated brand – carleasespecialoffers.co.uk – that caters for private individuals and those looking to opt out of the company car scheme.  This has been a significant growth area for the business over the last 24 months.”

Looking forward to his new position on the Leasing Broker Committee, Spencer Blake said: “There are some exciting times ahead for the leasing broker sector, with more than 260 leasing brokers now members of the association.

“This year will see the continued roll out of an audit programme which supports and reinforces the BVRLA’s Code of Conduct.

“By the end of 2017, all 260+ leasing broker members of the BVRLA will have been independently inspected, raising standards across the sector.

“During my tenure I want to raise the profile of BVRLA leasing brokers so that – with the ever-increasing uptake of Personal Contract Hire – any private individual considering leasing is aware of the benefits of dealing with a BVRLA member.”
