The 2013 Toyota Avensis gets DAB radios across the range, except for the entry level Active model

TOYOTA has freshened up its UK-built Avensis saloons and estates with a new system of trim levels and a few equipment adjustments that should appeal to company car drivers who like their creature comforts.

From now on the Toyota Avensis falls into line with the recently updated Auris and Verso, with entry level cars being badged Active and a climb through the Icon and Icon plus models to reach the range-topper, which is now called Excel.

As a starting point, equipment levels are carried over from the previous T2, TR, T4 and T Spirit but all cars now get “follow me home” headlamps.

The other main spec change is the adoption of DAB radios on all cars except the entry-lvel Active, although the Excel gets a new silver finish on the centre console. There’s also a new optional Protection Pack with rear parking sensors and a boot liner.

Engines are the familiar 1.8 Valvematic petrol and 2.0 and 2.2-litre diesels. Depending on engine choice, transmissions are a six-speed manual, a conventional automatic or Toyota’s CVT auto.

The revised Avensis models go on sale from the beginning of April, with prices starting at £19,155.
