Vauxhall Cascada car review – the convertible that won’t break the bank

Vauxhall’s Cascada has stunning good looks, a distinctly premium feel and four proper seats – yet it’s priced more like a compact soft top. Summer’s still with us – take a closer look.

Vauxhall Cascada
A convertible with premium looks and interior, but without the usual price tag

What is it?

The Cascada is Vauxhall’s big and glamorous four-seat convertible, launched with a flourish this spring.

With Cascada, Vauxhall is trying something new.

This is a sleek, full-size, front-drive convertible with a body that stretches longer than an Audi A5 Convertible.

Starting at just £23,995, however, the Vauxhall Cascada is priced more towards smaller open toppers, such as the VW Eos and Audi’s A3 Cabriolet.

Put another way, the grand tourer-style Cascada takes Vauxhall into a bold new market segment: premium open top looks, stance and equipment but at an attractive non-premium price.

Yes, it’s a formula that intrigues…..while the numbers, with competitive P11D and company car tax to pep up the interest of small business owners and SME company directors’,  also look to stack up well.

In a further boost, CAP Automotive, the independent car evaluation experts, have also been out early voicing confidence in the Cascada’s residuals, as we reported in BCM back in May.

As Cascada starts out, Vauxhall is keeping the range tight and focused.

Just two trim levels, SE and Elite and an efficient line-up of four cylinder petrol and diesel engines, spanning 1.4-2.0-litres. A 200PS high performance 1.6-litre direct injection turbo Vauxhall Cascada is soon set to appear as well, to add some extra fizz.

We’ve been driving the Vauxhall Cascada Elite with business-friendly 2.0-litre CDTI diesel on board. CO2 emissions are 138g/km. Combined economy is 54.3mpg and it has a P11D of £27,695 which handsomely undercuts a comparable Audi A5 or BMW 3-Series Convertible.

On paper then, as well as in the metal, the Vauxhall Cascada has plenty going for it.
