THE existing CO2 emissions based 13- band (Bands A to M) VED structure remains in place for 2013/14.

A modest RPI increase in VED (or road tax) rates is applicable from April 1, 2013. The key points are:

  • Cars with CO2 emissions of up to 100g/km remain exempt from VED in 2013/14.
  • A supplementary first-year VED rate (or Showroom Tax) adds up to £575 (for Band M cars) to the ROTR prices of qualifying cars.
  • For cars in Band M, the first-year rate is set at £1065 in 2013/14, up from £1030.
  • In 2013/14, the alternative fuel discounted annual VED rate remains at £10 for all qualifying cars.

New rates will come into force from April 1 2014, and don’t forget that 2014 will see the last time that you’ll have to exhibit a tax disc in your car. While the tax remains, the paper discs are being ditched from October 1
