  • Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept unveiled at Monterey Car Week
  • Ultimate expression of luxury
  • All electric drivetrain produces 750bhp
  • Finished in leather and featuring a wooden floor with aluminium trim
  • No, we don’t know how much it would actually cost, but if you have to ask….

WHAT better way to celebrate securing that lucrative new contract than treating yourself to a Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet?

If only such a thing were actually possible that is.

Not that there aren’t lucrative contracts to be won, it’s just that the car doesn’t actually exist. Yet.

Beautiful flowing design

This colossal Art Deco sculpture is the latest in a series of concepts that Mercedes -Benz has created to showcase their vision of the future. Not that the future will look like this but the technology and styling could make it’s way into future production models.

Six metres of ultra-stylish luxury Cabriolet.

The two-seater Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is designed to reflect the feel of a luxury yacht and demonstrate the ultimate in luxury. No arguments here. That’s exactly what the designers have achieved.

At six metres long it shares the dimensions of a yacht. Most of that length seems to be bonnet and long swooping tail. The wide grille, narrow headlights and huge 24-inch alloy wheels make it look like a car from the sort of future Gerry Anderson imagined back in the 1960s. It is stunningly beautiful nonetheless.

Lady Penelope is top of the waiting list

Full of buttoned leather, open-pore wood floor with aluminium inlay, and rose gold trim. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is a seriously elegant piece of automotive architecture. The interior seems to wrap around the “360° luxury lounge” – not our words – and those seats wouldn’t look out of place in a Henry Moore exhibition.

The future of car interiors?

If the profusion of blue LED lighting is any indication the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet isn’t short of technology either. The “hyperanalogue” dials are a combination of digital display with real needles which supposedly demonstrate analogue luxury in a digital world. Touch controls, voice activated Concierge function, dual head-up displays, and biometric sensors are just a few of the touches.

A synthesis of intelligence and Emotion – and blue LEDs

They aren’t the end of the technology though. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is actually an electric car. It has all wheel drive and generates the electrical equivalent of 750bhp. According to official figures this would equate to 0-60 in under four seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. It’s no slouch.

Mercedes also say the range is just over 300 miles and because it features a DC charging system with  a charging capacity of 350kW you can add 100 miles to the range in just five minutes. That would be useful in an increasingly electric world.

It’s true the closest you can get to this level of luxury right now is in the Maybach version of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It’s also true that electric cars aren’t at this level just yet. That’s fine though.

The fact that Mercedes actually built the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is still good news.

If it went on sale tomorrow it would be ridiculously expensive. The chances of seeing one parked outside your local post office on Monday morning would be non-existent. But sooner or later this level of design and technology will filter down to the average car. Then we can all have a go.

Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet comes with a set of two exclusively created suitcases. Space has also been provided for further additions such as picnic accessories. Well, why wouldn’t you?
