Verdict: Sci-fi looks and fun to drive at 313mpg

Volkswagen, XL1, interior
The interior of the Volkswagen XL1 is probably best described as snug

Verdict

The Volkswagen XL1 is exceptionally efficient as well as a stunning looker. This is a car that shouts its eco credentials, but is also fun to drive and modestly practical to live with. There is no range anxiety because the diesel engine takes over when the battery runs low. The purchase price is high, but running costs will be very low.
