Small businesses after a Citroen should look for VTX models. These are designed specifically for business fleets.

The cars offer a good spec (air con, alloy wheels and so on) and a competitive price.

However, they don’t receive the consumer cashback offers you’ll see advertised.

A VTX model is based on the Desire specification. The difference in price between a Picasso VTX and Picasso Desire is some £4000 (before any cashback deal).

There are several benefits. The VTX is cheaper to run on a contract hire lease; your company car driver pays less tax because the P11D price is lower; and as a company you will pay less National Insurance.

Here’s how a Picasso 1.6 HDi 92 VTX compares against a Picasso 1.6 HDi 92 Desire:

  • Lower contract hire cost: £232 v £236
  • Lower benefit in kind tax (22%): £37.96 v £51.45
  • Lower benefit in kind tax (40%): £69.01 v £93.55
  • Lower NI contributions: £22.08 v £29.94
  • Source: HSBC DriverQuote based on 36-month/30,000-mile contract hire agreement
