Volkswagen Golf Estate car road test report

Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI 140 SE Estate

What is it?

The new VW Golf Estate looks a class act for those wanting a smaller estate car. It’s well designed and thought out. The load area is fully carpeted and the sidewalls lined with top quality trim to protect both luggage and the interior of the vehicle. There are three trims: S, SE and Sportline. And three engine options: 1.6-litre 102PS petrol; and 1.9-litre 105PS and 2.0-litre 140PS TDI turbodiesels.

What’s hot?

  • Roomy and practical load area space
  • Up-market styling and quality interior
  • Good level of specification and safety equipment
  • Excellent driving and handling qualities
  • Over 50mpg and low CO2 emissions
  • Good residual values

What’s not?

  • Noisy diesel engine at start up and tickover
  • Limited headroom for tall drivers
  • Group 12 insurance rating – other models are group 6

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

A great estate car package at reasonable prices – yet you feel you’re driving a ‘premium’ brand car. For businesses looking to downsize the estate cars they run, the Golf is really no hardship.
