We want one: the VW Golf R 400 is only a concept at the moment, but we live in hope

OH my, my, my.

This has stopped the BCM offices in its tracks to have a gawp: VW’s most powerful Golf yet – the Golf R 400 concept.

If the Golf R hatchback wasn’t quick enough with its turbocharged 300PS engine and four-wheel drive grip, then the VW Golf R 400 kicks sand in its face.

There’s 400PS, 450Nm torque and 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds.

That’s Porsche 911 Turbo bating pace!

Volkswagen has unveiled the VW Golf R 400 at the Auto China Show in Beijing (21-29 April).

The Golf R 400 is the work of the company’s high performance division, Volkswagen R GmbH, and uses a modified version of the Golf R’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with six-speed DSG-equipped auto transmission. Top speed is limited to 174 mph.
